For an affair with Cantonese and Imperial flavours, Wan Chun Ting is the one true place to visit. Featuring auspicious dishes such as Braised Black Mushroom with Double Boiled Chicken Soup with Dried Scallops and Cordyceps Flower and Hong Kong Style Steamed Live Tiger Grouper with Superior Soy Sauce, it’s nothing but a feast. If all three of the set menus seem too much to handle, you may also opt to order from the special Lunar New Year a la carte menu.
YEE SANG MENU
Sofitel KL plans to spoil all yee sang lovers as they offer a whopping seven ‘flavours’, ranging from a vegetarian one (RM88 nett for half portion or RM176 nett for full portion) to one with jellyfish (same price as the vegetarian option) to a Scallop, Mango and Snow Pear Yee Sang (RM108 nett for half portion or RM216 for full portion) to an Australia lobster version (based on market price and requires to be ordered in advance).

3. Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur, till 2 March 2018
If full-course set menus sound overwhelming for the daytime, dim sum is the way to go and Mandarin Oriental KL’s Chef Ricky and team have specially crafted two menus for the season. Expect classic favourites such as Steamed seafood and chicken siew mai; Golden fried prawn and mango rolls with bread crumbs; Deep fried roasted duck dumplings; Traditional sea treasure soup with dumplings; and more.
YEE SANG MENU
Over at Mandarin Oriental KL, guests can choose from five types of yee sang: Abalone with assorted vegetables; Pan seared scallops and snow pear; Soft shell crab and snow pear; Salmon and assorted vegetable; and Assorted vegetables, shredded fruits in sesame dressings, available from RM98 nett to RM368 nett for half portion and full portion respectively.

The Longevity Dim Sum and Happiness Dim Sum sets are available for lunch only, at RM168 nett and RM228 nett per person respectively, with a minimum of four diners.

Known for its local Chinese dishes with a Szechuan influence, Five Sen5es at The Westin KL has whipped up several dishes – each with its own meaning – for the occasion. For example, the Braised Duck with Red Yeast Rice and Peanut represents health and fertility while the Deep Fried Prawn with Hawthorn Sauce topped with Osmanthus symbolises happiness all-year round. Go a la carte or choose one of the set menus.

The highlight here is the chef’s special plum sauce. Options include Crystal Pear and Mango Vegetarian Yee Sang; Taiwanese Top Shell Abalone Yee Sang; Norwegian Fresh Salmon Yee Sang; and Sliced Two Head Abalone Yee Sang. Prices range between RM68nett to RM268nett.

Expect classic Chinese New Year specialities as well as spinoff versions at the Shang Palace this season where every course is set to tantalise your taste buds.
