7 Plant nursery cafes in the Klang Valley to sip on coffee and shop for plants
Coffee, tea or plants?
There are two things that have been scientifically proven to be beneficial for the mind: coffee and plants. The former helps fuel cognitive performance to keep us on top of busy schedules, while the latter helps us feel more calm and relaxed. Put the two together and one may feel ready to seize the day.
It’s no wonder why plant-themed cafes have been consistently popular over the years. Beyond just the “Instagram-worthy” factor, these verdant places offer a haven for consumers to refuel and unwind at the same time. Now imagine bringing a slice of that haven back home...
Here are seven plant nurseries cum cafes in the Klang Valley that allow you to do just that—sip on coffee and shop for plants for your crib!
1. Planter Chin, Bangsar
Since opening in 2020, Planter Chin has attracted a steady stream of visitors who find comfort in enjoying a cuppa Joe amidst a sea of greenery. What started as a leap of faith between two friends—Jeremy Chin of pop-up coffee bar Outcast Coffee and Jan Zainal of bijou plant studio TamanHati—has blossomed into a full-blown cafe and plant studio complete with workshops, consultations, and gifting services. Most of the plants on display are for sale, from beginner-friendly (read: low-maintenance) Philodendron species to slow-growing and well-rooted Monstera Albo. Meanwhile, the humble menu consists of a breakfast set, pasta, and toast, as well as a selection of hot and cold beverages.
Address: 6a, Jalan Kemuja, Bangsar, 59000 Kuala Lumpur
Opening hours: 10am to 5pm daily
2. Sipping Corner by Plant & Pot Studio, Ampang & Puchong
Plant and Pot Studio established itself as a plant boutique and specialist back in 2016 before introducing a Sipping Corner (aptly named) a few years later. Its first brick and mortar plant concept store was opened in Bandar Puteri, Puchong to much fanfare, leading to the opening of its second branch in Ampang. Both outlets now double as a cafe serving artisanal coffee and matcha beverages, cakes, and pastries for visitors to grab a bite as they shop from the extensive selection of potted greens.
- Ampang: 1-1, Jalan AWF 3a, Ampang Waterfront, 68000 Ampang, Selangor
- Puchong: 78G, Jalan Puteri 5/5, Bandar Puteri, 47100 Puchong, Selangor
Opening hours: 9am to 6pm daily
3. Mori Kohi @ Midorie, Kuala Lumpur
Mori Kohi is one of the newer cafes on this list (first featured in our #BUROEats November 2021 roundup), debuting as one of five unique concepts housed within a plant-themed bungalow. You’ll find Western-influenced Japanese dishes on the menu, incorporating fresh vegetables from its neighbouring indoor urban farm, Vegetory. While it's not a plant nursery per se, customers can bring home the choicest hydroponic harvest from Vegetory or shop for decorative plants, pots, and gardening supplies at Midorie, the plant retail gallery next door.
Address: 11, Jalan Aman, Off Jalan Tun Razak, 55000 Kuala Lumpur
Opening hours: 10am to 10pm daily
4. Monster A Garden Cafe, Imbi
You won’t find really monsters at this pet-friendly Imbi cafe, but plenty of Monsteras in varying species and sizes. Perhaps even an adorable cat or three. There’s also an Anthurium wall inside the cosy, art-adorned indoor dining area, plus at least a dozen different cacti and plants landscaping the al-fresco mini garden that resembles a verdant campsite. Aside from cats and plants, visitors can enjoy an array of pasta and rice dishes, desserts, coffee, and crafted beverages here.
Address: 40, Jalan 1/77A Off Jalan Imbi, Changkat Thambi Dollah, 55100 Kuala Lumpur
Opening hours: 12pm to 8pm
5. Florescence by World of Phalaenopsis, Ulu Yam
Make this nursery a mandatory stop the next time you pass by Ulu Yam to unwind in the middle of a lush orchid farm. Located about a 45-minute drive away from the heart of KL, the World of Phalaenopsis is best known for the orchid species it is named after, which surrounds the beautifully landscaped property. Tucked inside the tranquil nursery is Florescence, a picturesque cafe that offers the best spot to bask in the beauty of the farm. Although the menu is rather limited, the dining experience is said to be magical for plant enthusiasts thanks to the surrounding scenery. Plus, you can browse through the shop's wide range of seedlings, flowers, baskets, and pots to add to your own collection at home!
Address: 1017, Jln Batang Kali - Hulu Yam Bharu, Kampung Sungai Kamin, 44300 Batang Kali, Selangor
Opening hours: 9am to 5pm daily
6. Gardenage by Craftman, Kota Kemuning
Set in Kota Kemuning, Gardenage started out as a plant boutique in 2020 and began serving coffee and pastries a few months later. Following the positive response from customers, the green oasis evolved into a full-fledged cafe in January 2021. Today, it serves a respectable variety of dishes including brunch options, pastas, sandwiches, and desserts. On top of that, customers can shop for garden supplies such as soil, fertiliser, pots, flowers, and shrubs.
Address: 8, Jalan Anggerik Aranda A 31/A, Kota Kemuning, 40460 Shah Alam, Selangor
Opening hours: 10am to 6pm (Tuesday to Friday) | 10am to 4pm (Saturday and Sunday)
7. Mossarium, Bandar Utama
If you’re particularly fond of terrariums or mini forests, check out Mossarium in One Utama. The unassuming, cosy café is stocked with pretty plants and terrariums housed in displays ranging from a sphere that fits in your palm to a dome twice the size of a basketball. Terrarium workshops are also held occasionally in the store for beginners to learn how to create their own miniature garden. While you’re there, treat yourself to a cup of coffee, matcha, kombucha, or cakes as you admire the meticulously designed terrariums.
