8 Omakase and Japanese bento sets for takeaway/delivery in the Klang Valley

When it comes to Japanese cuisine, nothing beats dining in at a restaurant. It’s not just the exclusive omakase experience we’re referring to; because there’s something about the art of washoku (Japanese food) that engulfs and permeates the space it is served in—whether it’s an otoro that’s torched before your eyes or a bowl of ramen that arrives piping hot on your table.

With that said, we’d still settle for takeouts or deliveries of our favourite Japanese fare any day, at least until dine-ins are allowed again. If you’re missing fresh servings of sashimi and sushi or grilled meats and sandos as much as we do, here are our top places to order from.

Ushi

Ushi prides itself as the first and only restaurant in Malaysia to offer Ozaki wagyu, so it’s no surprise that the prized beef takes centre stage in the Ushi Omakase set. It is served in different ways alongside six appetisers and a box of wagyu chirashizushi for the ultimate wagyu indulgence.

The restaurant is also offering premium box sets for couples or groups of up to six persons, as well as individual wagyu bento sets and grilled Ozaki beef cuts. Besides that, there’s a plethora of seafood dishes, sandos, udon noodles, and side orders, on top of sukiyaki and shabu-shabu sets to satisfy discerning palates of Japanese cuisine.

Sushi Taka

Taka is to seafood lovers what Ushi is to wagyu buffs—and they just happen to be sister establishments located in The St Regis Kuala Lumpur. Taka’s equally extensive menu boasts freshly imported seafood flown directly from Toyosu Fish Market in Tokyo, with seasonal selections starring in the signature Taka Omakase set.

Alternatively, there are sushi boxes and temaki kits for sharing between two to three persons. Pamper your taste buds further with the assortment of sushi rolls, chirashi, and rich, creamy sea urchin from Hokkaido. To complete your meal, take your pick from Taka’s signature tamagoyaki, Japanese cheesecake, or green tea mochi.

Iki Omakase

The newest omakase joint on this list is Iki Omakase, which just opened its doors last April. While we await the opportunity to dine in at its cosy, Tokyo-inspired space in Imbi, the restaurant is currently offering a takeaway and delivery menu featuring special sushi sets, hot or cold noodles, rice dishes, and desserts.

Highlighting the menu is the Karafuru set, which consists of the chef’s selection of premium sashimi, finely crafted nigiri, and the dessert of the day—all housed in a traditional wooden lacquered bento box.
