15 Cafes and restaurants with outdoor dining areas in the Klang Valley

After months of prolonged total lockdown in KL and Selangor, it’s understandable for some to jump at the opportunity to dine-in again following the government’s relaxation of some SOPs last month. However, not all are happy about this development given the still considerably high number of Covid-19 cases in the country.

The good news: Covid-19 cases in the Klang Valley has actually shown some improvement over the last few days as more people attain a full vaccination status. The not-so-good news: even those who are fully vaccinated can still be infected with Covid-19, albeit the majority having less severe (Category 1 to 2) symptoms.

With that said, one safer (though by no means fail-proof) way to enjoy dine-ins is to opt for outdoor seating areas or al fresco dining. By this definition, the place should have unrestricted cross-ventilation, which means that air can flow freely from opposing sides. This minimises the spread of respiratory droplets and allows potentially harmful aerosols to disperse more quickly than in indoor settings. It’s also worth noting that eateries are only allowed to operate at 50 per cent diner capacity and with tables distanced one meter apart, according to current MKN guidelines.

REMINDER:

Based on the latest SOPs effective from 20 August 2021, dine-ins are only allowed if:

  • You are fully vaccinated (14 days or more after receiving your second dose of a Pfizer/Sinovac/Astra-Zeneca vaccine OR 28 days after receiving a Johnson & Johnson or CanSino vaccine)
  • You are able to produce your Covid-19 vaccination digital certificate as proof of your vaccination status
  • You are under 18 years old and accompanied by an adult who is fully vaccinated (however, this is not encouraged)

If you meet the above criteria, here’s a list of cafes and restaurants with outdoor seating areas that are now open for dine-ins in the Klang Valley.

1. Jibby by the Park

Located at The Waterfront at Desa Park City, Jibby by the Park offers an al fresco outdoor seating area with lush greenery and a healthy dose of sunshine. Meanwhile, the indoor dining area features high ceilings and reasonable space for ventilation, so that could be an option if the seats outside are fully occupied. The menu here includes a range of café staples, spanning from pasta and pizza to brunch foods and local dishes.
