How-to: Sequins for daytime

There’s nothing like some sparkle that gives your daily ensemble that perk-me-up; the shiny details—which may have a tacky and over-the-top reputation in the past—have now taken a (surprisingly) wearable turn, with more and more embellished looks spotted out and about during the day. And with day-to-night outfits being all the rage, the trend will let you mix business and pleasure in one. Take a style cue from these celebs who have given the shiny sequins a modern makeover, and we’re hopping on the bandwagon stat.

It’s in the details

For those of you who are a lil’ hesitant, start small with just a hint of shine to pique some interest. From adding clusters of sequins to amp up your look to breaking off your monochrome ensembles, these understated details lend a trendy result. Erin’s flared pantsuit with sequinned lapels is our next boardroom-to-cocktails style inspo.

Pare it down

Often associated with party looks, one of the easiest ways to make it daytime-appropriate is to pair it with casual separates. Rugged denim, cosy knits and tailored shirts do the trick. We love how Victoria tones down her festive mini dress with an oversized denim jacket. Swap the heels with a pair of sneakers and you’re all set for your day about town.

Short and sweet

Notice-me dresses can be worn during the day too, but a tip to style it right is to opt for a shorter length (and a shift silhouette) to lessen the formal vibe. Kelly and Shermine nail their shimmery outfits by keeping things effortless—without forgetting to flaunt their toned pins. Kristen’s knee-length jumpsuit is a refreshing pick for a daytime event.

On the edge

Alternatively, you can also go edgy for your take on the trend. Noah’s mesh-checkered combo and Alexa’s biker-jacket pairing exude a more casual-cool flair, but if you’d like to dress to impress, Gabrielle’s double-embellished look and Irene’s boxy cropped top (with a swath of midriff) are your go-to inspo.
