The CFDA Fashion Awards 2018: Who are the nominees?

The Council of Fashion Designers of America is shaking things up this year, with a few changes made to its yearly event. Unlike the past two years, where the event was held at the Royal Albert Hall in London, the awards ceremony will now take place at the Brooklyn Museum on June 4. Less than a month to go, the council has opted for a different way to reveal its list of nominees and honorees with the help of some industry elites such as models Martha Hunt, rapper Young Paris and designers Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia (of Oscar de la Renta and Monse Maison) and more through its Instagram. Hosted by actress, writer, director and producer, Issa Rae, aside from being the first female host in nine years, she is also the first-ever African-American since the inception of the event in 1981.

While a few categories which were first introduced last year such as the Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent and Swarovski Award for Positive Change Awards will remain, for the first time ever, CFDA is also introducing a new Influencer Award, and the recipient is none other Kim Kardashian. Love her or hate her, it’s undeniable that the star has impacted the fashion industry with her bold fashion choices. On top of that, some of the other honorees include supermodel Naomi Campbell, who will be receiving the CFDA Fashion Icon award, and Donatella Versace—the recipient of the International Award.
