Italian fashion house Roberto Cavalli has named British creative director Paul Surridge as its new creative director, to be effective immediately. This appointment comes six months after Peter Dundas’ exit, where the former creative director helmed the brand for a short 19-month stint.
“I am honoured and proud to carry forward the legacy of this extraordinary Italian house. This is a unique opportunity to contribute a new chapter to the Roberto Cavalli universe which positively celebrates the beauty, sensuality and power of women,” says Surridge in a statement. “It’s my intention to show the passion I share for the codes and vision on which Roberto Cavalli built his brand while celebrating the excellence of Italian craftsmanship.”
Surridge cut his teeth at a handful of men’s fashion labels, including Calvin Klein, Burberry under Christopher Bailey, Jil Sander under Raf Simons, Z Zegna, and most recently, as the creative consultant at Acne Studios. While Dundas brought on a ’70s-leaning, ultra feminine aesthetic (with a penchant for animal prints and body-hugging silhouettes) to the brand during his tenure, we can’t wait to see what Surridge brings to the table. The new designer’s debut for Roberto Cavalli will be the women’s Spring 2018 collection in Milan this September.
