New York Fashion Week SS18: Highlights of Day 3

For the Spring/Summer 2018 season, Tory Burch pays homage to one of the most influential interior designer of all time—David Hicks, with a collection that is all about prints and colours (that the American brand is also known for). Moving her show outdoors to the garden outside the Copper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, the greenery setting perfectly complements the looks sent down the runway. A colour palette of white, orange and blue is presented in the form of light and airy silhouettes, such as flared trousers and maxi dresses that exude ease. Polished and preppy looks were also in the mix, with a number of button-down shirts-styled under sweaters or worn with cardigans-spotted on the models.

“Bold, audacious, brilliant. David Hicks redefined interiors. His fearless and witty take on colour and print and his exquisite attention to detail have made a lasting impression on me. For #ToryBurchSS18, we’re honoured to work with the legendary designer’s scrapbooks given to us by his son. Immeasurable thanks to Ashley Hicks for this collaboration.” — Tory Burch

On the other hand, Kate Spade New York‘s presentation was an ode to the spirit of New Orleans, with a brass band that played catchy jazz tunes at its show venue—the Grand Central Oyster Bar. The collection, inspired by the atmosphere and characteristics of the city’s French Quarter sees a series of girlie floral prints, embroidery and lace details. Besides that, the brand’s signature whimsy was also present in the looks, with a wicker crocodile-shaped bag and cool butterfly prints adding a cute touch. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the brand, Kate Spade New York is bringing back its iconic ‘Sam’ bag—a box-shaped tote in different prints and textures.
