Met Gala 2020: The date, the theme, and the hosts revealed

Met Gala is fashion’s biggest event—there’s no doubt about that. After another highly successful gala this year, the theme for 2020 has been announced, and it’s ‘About Time: Fashion and Duration’. Inspired by the works of English writer Virginia Woolf and French-Jewish philosopher Henri Bergson, the theme is also a reference from the 1992 film Orlando by Sally Potter. According to Andrew Bolton, the Wendy Yu Curator in Charge of the Costume Institute, “There’s a wonderful scene in which Tilda Swinton enters the maze in an 18th-century woman’s robe à la Francaise, and as she runs through it, her clothes change to mid-19th-century dress, and she reemerges in 1850s England. That’s where the original idea came from.”

One thing’s for sure: next year’s event will be a major one, as the Met Museum will celebrate its 150th anniversary. The exhibition will feature 160 pieces of women’s clothing from the past 150 years, bridging the best of fashion from the past, present, and future. The co-chairs of 2020 has also been revealed—aside from Anna Wintour, the list includes Louis Vuitton’s womenswear creative director Nicolas Ghesquière, Emma Stone, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Meryl Streep, who will be attending her very first Met Gala.

While we patiently wait for the first Monday of May to come, take a look back at all the celebrity looks from this year’s event:
