KLFW 2023: Everything you need to know about the city’s biggest fashion affair

As this month draws to a close, local fashionistas know only one thing is on the horizon—fashion week! That’s right, Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week (KLFW) returns for its 11th edition this year, from August 21 to August 27, 2023, promising a heightened experience, better engagement, and more excitement. Over the course of seven days, 50 homegrown designers and brands are set to reveal their latest ready-to-wear collections, including some of Malaysia’s leading fashion houses, such as Mimipikita, Hatta Dolmat, Rizman Ruzaini, and Syomirizwa Gupta.

While Pavilion Kuala Lumpur has always been synonymous with the fashion week, KLFW takes a new turn this year as the runway shows will be staged at seven different locations to deliver a renewed sense of variety and develop intimate connections between designers and fashion lovers. This round’s venues include the Sofitel Damansara, Park Royal Collection Kuala Lumpur, Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur, Naza Tower, Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral, Boathouse Kuala Lumpur, and InterContinental Kuala Lumpur. “Our vision for KLFW 2023 is to cut through the static and noise to ensure that the focus remains back to the designs, creativity, and the urge to push fashion forward,” says KLFW founder Andrew Tan.

To kick off KLFW 2023, eight labels from the Malaysian Official Designers Association (MODA) like Tangoo, Styled by Peter Lum, and Atelier Prive Melson will present their collection at the opening show. Following that, seven designers will make their KLFW debut, as well as the long-awaited comeback of Fairuz Ramdan, Andy Sulaiman, Ezzati Amira, Zaimi Zulkafli, and Supercrew.

Other than that, the three winners of ‘Samsung Presents: The KL10 Designer Search 2022—Julia Wey, Uzair Shoid and Lurazah’s Raunna—are scheduled to present their full collections under the theme ‘Design To Sustain’. Limited pieces from each series will also be available exclusively at Isetan The Japan Store at Lot 10 Kuala Lumpur. Beyond that, KLFW is launching a new segment named ‘Asia Fashion Xchange’ in support of its initiatives to promote and highlight our regional Asian designers and brands.

To spice things up, Fashion Connect.23 is back on the agenda with a full-day networking and educational event geared to boost the supply chain of the fashion industry. Hosted by AmBank Group, the symposium promises a slew of engaging and thought-provoking conversations with designers, industry experts, and cultural personalities. Another major occasion not to be missed is the esteemed Kuala Lumpur Fashion Awards (KLFA). First held in 2021, KLFA returns to celebrate the resilience and creativity exemplified by local designers and tastemakers.
