Jil Sander appoints Luke and Lucie Meier as creative directors

Jil Sander has recently named duo Luke and Lucie Meier as the new creative directors of the brand, shortly after Rodolfo Paglialunga’s exit just three weeks ago. The husband-and-wife duo’s new appointment is effectively immediately, and it has been reported that they have already started working on both men’s and women’s collections for Resort 2018. Both collections will be presented at the same time on the runway, as the pair will be taking on the coed format that a handful of other brands have adopted.

“We feel proud and honoured to join this beautiful brand. We hope to show the affection we have for this brand through our work, as Jil Sander has had such a profound influence on our paths,” the couple said in a statement.

The Meiers aren’t new in the industry—Luke co-founded his own menswear label OAMC after his eight-year role as head designer at Supreme; while Lucie has had experience working at Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga, and most recently Dior as the ready-to-wear and haute couture design director when Raf Simons was creative director. She and Serge Ruffieux both designed interim collections during the period after Simons’ departure and before Maria Grazia Chiuri’s appointment.
