First look: Pharrell’s debut collection with Chanel is as fun as you think

“Hard to believe this all started with writing it on my shoes in 2010,” Pharrell captioned this on the post of his video teaser on Instagram. After years of being Chanel’s brand ambassador (from starring in the brand’s Gabrielle Chanel campaigns and short films to walking the runway, he’s almost done it all), the musician is finally releasing his own capsule line with the brand, and trust us when we say that he’s bringing something fresh to the table.

Named the Chanel-Pharrell, the collection takes a casual-cool approach, consisting of over 40 urban ready-to-wear clothing, accessories, and footwear in a vibrant rainbow colour palette that symbolises optimism—but that’s not it. For the first time ever, unisex hoodies and T-shirts are also introduced, alongside short and long robes that give your looks that added flair. If you’re a fan of Pharrell’s style, the rhinestoned costume jewellery (you can now emulate the star’s love for long pearl necklaces), bucket hats and bum bags are right up your alley. To fully capture the spirit of street art, take a closer look and you’ll notice the singer’s writing and graffiti emblazoned on the pieces. One of our favourite details, is the paragraph printed behind a long-sleeve T-shirt about the bet he made with a friend on a future collaboration with Chanel 10 years ago. Watch that in the behind-the-scenes video below:

Both the behind-the-scenes and the campaign videos also follow the tone of the collection—optimistic, positive, and rich in colours and energy. Featuring a diverse cast of It-models such as Adesuwa Aighewi, Alton Mason, Anok Yai, Soo Joo Park, and Yoon Young Bae, the gang sets out on a nocturnal road trip in the Chanel-Pharrell collection, and it’s one that the musician is undoubtedly proud of. In a statement released by the brand, the singer says, “This film is about a capsule collection, something that they’ve never done in the history of the brand. They do that not with a designer, but with a musician with ambition and dreams. And dreams do come true.”

The Chanel-Pharrell collection will hit store on April 4.
