Almost two years after Demna Gvasalia took over the creative reins at Balenciaga, the Georgian designer is succinctly attempting to craft his own identity at the Spanish luxury house. From taking inspiration from Ikea to giving Crocs an elevated spin (by way of platforms, naturally), Gvasalia’s path in conceiving a notion of singularity at Balenciaga has been gradual—but only recently has he sped up the pace, especially this Spring/Summer 2018 season.
The house introduced a new logo with a redesigned typeface, a few days before the women’s SS18 ready-to-wear collection was unveiled. “Conceived in-house, the development process was inspired by the clarity of public transportation signage. The result is a visually shortened logo which gives a simple, bold stamp to the timeless deluxe Balenciaga signature,” said the official statement by the brand.
