When the Nike Mag was reinvented for Michael J. Fox’s character Marty McFly in Back to the Future II (with scenes set in the futuristic world of 15), the pair of sneakers featured the self-lacing system—an inimitable design that’s one of the more well-known beacons of popular culture. And as all Back to the Future fans would know, October 21, 2015 marks the significant day that McFly travels 30 years into the future, exploring hoverboards and self-lacing sneakers along the way. As a tribute, Nike delivered an innovative gift to the first wearer of all Nike Mag shoes, Michael J. Fox. The 2015 Nike Mag’s “power laces” combines archetype invention with digital technology, resulting in an individually responsive system that senses the wearer’s motion to provide adaptive on-demand comfort and support.
The 2015 Nike Mag has a limited edition release that will only be available via auction, with all proceeds going to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
