Did you know the rat is the first zodiac animal in the Chinese calendar? As we welcome the Year of the Rat end of this month and bid goodbye to the Year of the Pig, many brands have released limited edition capsule collections that should be on your radar—if it’s not already. While we’d be the first to agree that the rodent is not the cutest animal in the Chinese horoscope (is there such thing as a rat lover, honestly?), the brands have, thankfully, given it a more adorable spin and let cartoons and illustrations take centre stage.
Gucci, for one, has collaborated with Disney on an array of pieces featuring Mickey Mouse, as well as Moschino with its own take on the pop culture icon. On the other hand, Kate Spade New York set their eyes on another popular animated character—Jerry Mouse from Tom and Jerry—for its line of bags and small leather goods. Louis Vuitton went on a subtler route by adding oh-so-cute rat ears to its earphone holder, so did Chloé with its painterly prints. Want something that screams ‘look at me’? Qeelin‘s Bo Bo Mouse pendant—that’s limited to only 88 pieces worldwide—and Tory Burch‘s Mouse shoulder bag (spot the super mini TB tote!) will surely turn heads.
