Style Spotlight: 8 Fashion moments where Anya Taylor-Joy brings joy to the red carpet

Why, after a decade in the entertainment industry, did the world finally take notice of the doe-eyed actress, Anya Taylor-Joy? In the realm of Hollywood, while many indeed shine, few radiate as brightly as The Queen’s Gambit’s star. As she delivers one powerful performance after another, she not only showcases her acting prowess but also mesmerises audiences with her impeccable sense of style, establishing herself as an ethereal beauty to be reckoned with.

The recently turned 28-year-old star’s fashion choices often incorporate vibrant colours, avant-garde elements and unique textures that set her apart in the industry. On the red carpet, she often dazzles in custom creations from renowned designers like Dior, Chanel, Gucci and Rodarte. We can’t deny it; she looks good in every single one of them. Her ability to effortlessly pull off both elegant and dramatic silhouettes has made her a favourite among fashion critics. The same goes for us as we can’t help being glued to the screens and wonder, “What would Anya Taylor-Joy wear next?”.

Here, we’re bringing the best Anya Taylor-Joy fashion highlights that we don’t mind reliving again and again.

Ethereal beauty

We loved Zendaya for her robo-ensemble by 1995 Manfred Thierry Mugler at the Dune: Part 2 premiere in London earlier this year, but the spotlight is big enough for Taylor-Joy’s goddess-like ensemble too. Taylor-Joy appeared in a custom Dior floor-length translucent dress, with a unique hooded feature. Absolutely breathtaking.

Champagne goddess

Spotlighting one of her most recent looks, Anya Taylor-Joy is seen in a Dior sparkly-champagne-coloured gown at the 77th annual Cannes Film Festival at Palais des Festivals. Earrings and necklace from Tiffany & Co. We could be wrong, but this may be the most glamorous Taylor-Joy we’ve seen so far.

The Met Gala may be over but the Furiosa actress is still giving on her ongoing press tour for the movie. Yet another look from the tour, Taylor-Joy made a shining entrance in her metal armour custom-made by Balmain. The dress, or suit of armour, is moulded precisely to her figure, with little bundles of roses trickling down the dress in a sophisticated manner.

Even though she’s not in the running for an Oscar, Taylor-Joy still made a stunning appearance in what we think is one of her best looks so far. She wore an embellished Dior Haute Couture scalloped dress to her first-ever Oscars, perfectly complemented with jewellery from Tiffany & Co., of course.

It’s vintage

Throwback to the premiere of Emma in February 2021, when Anya Taylor-Joy turned up in a vintage-looking ensemble that’s very much on par with the film’s 19th-century setting. The beaded Victorian-style gown is reported to be a vintage Bob Mackie wedding gown, taken from stylist Law Roach’s personal archive. When we said she could do both vintage and contemporary, we meant it.

Emerald green may be her colour. Looking ethereal in a shimmery custom Dior Haute Couture dress, the star graced the Golden Globes earlier this year—one of the most important nights of her acting career. Taylor-Joy was nominated for  Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for Emma and Best Actress in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture for TV for The Queen’s Gambit. Adding to the long list, The Queen’s Gambit was also nominated for Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.

Goth girl

We adore ‘gothic’ Anya Taylor-Joy too. As a global brand ambassador of Dior for the past three years now, it’s no surprise to see her up at the front row of the Dior Pre-Fall show in April 2024. The actress wore a black sleeveless midi dress with a square neckline and matching pencil skirt, accessorised with sheer black gloves and a black headband for that extra grandeur. It’s giving us funeral chic, and we have no qualms about it.

Hey, Barbie!

She’s a Barbie girl, in a Barbie world. The blonde and pink are a perfect match. Taylor-Joy showed up on the red carpet of Last Night in Soho in a Dior Haute Couture ensemble, complete with a matching hat and shoes. Its hourglass silhouette exudes classiness but is still young with its bold colour choice.
