Fashion buzz: Louis Vuitton releases face shield, Fendi appoints Kim Jones as its new artistic director, and more

Louis Vuitton is hopping on the PPE bandwagon with the LV Shield Visor

PPE, but make it luxe. Following the launch of designer face masks, it was only a matter of time before a brand takes things a step further with face shields, and Louis Vuitton is set to do just that. As part of its Cruise 2021 collection, the French Maison’s protective gear comes in  its signature monogram print and is finished with gold studs that are engraved with its logo, but that’s not it. The visor transitions from clear to dark under bright light, and it features a flip-up mechanism that allows it to be worn as a cap too.

The LV Shield Visor is set to launch on October 30.

Fendi appoints Kim Jones as its new womenswear artistic director

The late Karl Lagerfeld’s successor at Fendi has been named, and it’s none other than Kim Jones. The British designer will be overseeing the Italian fashion house’s women’s haute couture, ready-to-wear, and fur collections, while maintaining his role as the artistic director at Dior Men. This marks Jones’s first foray into womenswear, and his first collection will be unveiled during Milan Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2021 in February next year.

In a statement on Instagram, the British designer said, “I would like to profoundly thank Monsieur Arnault, Pietro Beccari, Serge Brunschwig and Silvia Venturini Fendi for this incredible opportunity. Working across two such prestigious houses is a true honour as a designer and to be able to join the house of Fendi as well as continuing my work at Dior Men’s is a huge privilege.” Kim is welcomed with open arms by Silvia Venturini Fendi who stated, “My warmest welcome to Kim, to whom I am bound by deep respect and friendship. I am looking forward to taking the Fendi universe to the next level with him.” We can’t wait to see what’s in-store.

Jimmy Choo and Timberland’s collab is a partnership we didn’t see coming

Jimmy Choo and Timberland may make for an unlikely collaboration, but we’re not complaining. First spotted by Jennifer Lopez during Superbowl this year, the luxury footwear label has given Timberland’s iconic yellow boots an opulent makeover with Swarovski crystals and glitter embellishment, and the best part is, there are options for both ladies and gents.

The women’s line features four variations: wheat with gold glitter, black with glitter, wheat with Swarovski crystal collar, and the limited-edition (and our favourite), the all-over Swarovski with crystal embellishment that will turn heads for the right reason.

Swarovski’s first Crystal Studio in Southeast Asia is now in Malaysia

Attention: Swarovski’s first-ever Crystal Studio in Southeast Asia has landed on Malaysian shores, and if you’re already a fan of the brand, the new boutique is not to be missed. Located at Mid Valley Megamall, the new store concept features a retail experience like no other, from interactive digital touch points to an immersive Crystal Bar that lets you discover the brand’s wide range of offerings (and shop to your heart’s content).

Saint Laurent goes on a world tour for its Spring/Summer 2021 Men’s collection

After announcing its decision to opt out of the rigid fashion week calendar, Saint Laurent has unveiled its Spring/Summer 2021 Men’s collection online, and it’s an action-packed production brings us on a journey around the world. Titled No Matter How Long The Night Is, the six-minute film features models doing parkour-like stunts on rooftops, bridges, and across buildings in Paris, New York, and Beijing, dressed in the brand’s latest designs.

Clothing-wise, the collection is an extension of creative director Anthony Vaccarello’s Californian cool aesthetic from last season, as pieces including bomber jackets, blazers, and shirts are all introduced in bold prints and luxe fabrics. The faux fur jackets, ankle-length shirts, and gladiator sandals, in particular, finish off the collection on a slightly playful note.

Tod’s releases short film, Sounds of a Planet, starring Japanese actress Nana Eikura

In conjunction with the launch of its Autumn/Winter 2020 collection, Tod’s has unveiled a short movie titled Sounds of a Planet starring Japanese actress and friend of the brand, Nana Eikura. Taking place in a small laundry shop, the four-and-a-half-minute video features a young lady (played by Eikura) who’s experiencing a series of mysterious events that feel like something out of a daydream.
