Watch: These balloon dresses that went viral on the internet will blow your mind

We all know the satisfying feeling one gets when we see a balloon deflate rapidly before our eyes, but on Thursday, Norwegian designer Fredrik Tjærandsen just brought that to a whole new level. For his final show as the graduating class of Central Saint Martins this year, he sent down models that were dressed in inflated rubber spheres that formed a massive bubble around them. As though that wasn’t jaw-dropping enough, some of the balloons deflated before transforming into bulbous dresses and skirt sets—and they are completely mesmerising.

How did he do it? A simple latch on the inside from allows the wearer to release the air pressure any time. In an interview with Vogue, he revealed that “each bubble is made from natural rubber (sourced from Sri Lanka), with roughly five metres of rubber needed to create each dress.” And the best part, is the pieces can be worn again—both as a bubble, or a dress or skirt. Tjærandsen—who has worked with Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton—ended up taking home the L’Oreal Professional Young Talent Award, which is the highest prize for a CSM design student. One thing’s for sure, this won’t be the last we’ll see of him.
