15 years since the competition was first introduced, Vogue and the Council of Fashion Designers of America are back again for this year’s program, and they have released the official lineup of the 10 finalists. These up-and-coming designers will be in the running for the prizes; aside from the cash prize of USD$400,000 for the winner, and USD$150,000 for the two runners-up, all winners will also receive a year-long mentorship from the CFDA committee. The high-stakes search has been responsible for launching the careers of some of the biggest names in the industry, such as Alexander Wang, Proenza Schouler, Paul Andrew (who is now the head of womenswear at Salvatore Ferragamo) and more. Last year’s winner was gender-neutral label Telfar.
For the first phase of the competition, all 10 designers were given a task to present to the panel of judges this year, which consists of Anna Wintour, Mark Holgate and Nicole Phelps from Vogue; President and CEO of the CFDA, Steven Kolb; fashion designers Diane Von Furstenberg and Joseph Altuzarra; Instagram’s director of fashion partnerships, Eva Chen; fashion consultant Roopal Patel; retailer Jeffrey Kalinsky and Andrew Rosen.
