It-bag of the week: The Mulberry Amberley

Creative director Johnny Coca has introduced a series of new handbags for Autumn/Winter 2017, but the Amberley bags, named after the Amberley Castle—an English county in West Sussex from the 12th century—were definitely one of the focal pieces. Available in five different designs—the Amberley (with top-handle), Amberley Satchel, Small Amberley Satchel, Mini Amberley Satchel, and the Amberley Hobo, its silhouette and shape is inspired by the “countryside pursuit” for that traditional British flair, off-set with contemporary workmanship that is the epitome of “something old, something new”.

The key features of the Amberley line include equestrian-like stitching and quilted details in smooth leather, finished off with the brand’s new hardware, named the Rider’s Lock, which is a “reminiscent of the metal on horse bits and bridles”. The result? A beautiful utilitarian piece that can be passed down from generation to generation. Our favourites are the crocodile-skin pieces that give the carrier that modern edge.
