Fashion Insider: Actress Malle Christian Anderson on celebrating Kaamatan in elegance

When discussing Sabah, many often highlight its breathtaking landscapes, ranging from the majestic Mount Kinabalu to the serene Tanjung Aru beach, as well as its delectable local delicacies and the warm hospitality of its people. The Land Below The Wind is also home to some remarkable talents, including Malle Christian Anderson. Born and raised in Kudat, Malle first gained recognition as the Unduk Ngadau (local beauty queen) for the Matunggong district in 2021.

The following year saw her transition into the entertainment industry, where she competed in Dewi Remaja alongside 16 other tenacious young women from diverse backgrounds. Since then, Malle has broadened her career, venturing into acting while also delving into content creation on the side. With Kaamatan just around the corner, we catch up with the sumandak to learn more about her current journey and get some tips on how to celebrate the harvest festival in style.

How did you get started as an actress and what made you decide to be one?

“My journey started last year when I took a small role in the drama ‘One Million Dollar Voice,’ directed by Michael Ang. It was my first time acting in a drama, and I loved it! I enjoyed the challenge of portraying different characters, and it was then I discovered my passion for acting.”

What is the biggest lesson that you have learned since you became an actress?

“Be bold. Trust your instincts in shaping the character, but remain humble enough to ask for advice when needed.”

What was your first fashion memory?

“When I was eight, I clearly remember my sister joining a Merdeka Pageant. She was all dolled up in a colourful, layered dress, and I couldn’t take my eyes off her.”

How would you describe your style?

“Definitely formal casual—I enjoy a little bit of both and prefer to look put together.”

Who have been some of your fashion role models or inspirations, and why?

“I used to look up to Britney Spears as a child, but nowadays, Thai actress Thitiya Jirapornsilp, also known as Baipor, is my source of inspiration. Her formal-casual style effortlessly exudes glamour and class—exactly the look I want to pull off.”

Are there any tips you would like to share on how to look stylish for Kaamatan?

“Just add a touch of traditional accessories, and you’re good to go.”

If you could only wear one outfit for the rest of your life, what would it be?

“I will wear a white top and flare jeans.”

What’s next for you?

“I would rather show than tell!”

What would you be if you were not an actress?

“I would be a full-time content creator. I love coming up with creative ideas to grow my platform.”
