Who: The regulars—Pharrell and wife, Helen Lasichanh, Caroline de Maigret, Soo Joo Park, Pamela Anderson, Vanessa Paradis and Ines de la Frassange—were all seated front and centre on the “beach”.

Where: Walking past the Grand Palais on the way to an appointment last week, a back door was open, which allowed me to take a sneak peek into the interior, but all I saw was a bright blue backdrop. This morning, that backdrop turned out to be the sky for the Chanel beach, complete with sand, ‘real’ lapping waves, lifeguard chairs and a little beach hut.

The Low-down: Models walked barefoot on the beach, or in the water, wearing tweeds the colour of sand, boxy, slightly oversized jackets, printed summer dresses, and denim and lace combos. Aside from bike shorts and cropped leggings, it was a dressed up day out at the beach—case in point: the finale looks in black tulle, fit for a black-tie party. Most-wanted accessories include the double crossbody bags, with one bag on either side of the hips, the straw hats, woven vanity case, and mini bags masquerading as beach balls.

Buro Loves: The sand coloured tweeds, shades of buttercup yellow, the nude jackets with black contrast piping, statement ‘Chanel’ jewellery (bound to fly off the shelves), and the shell minaudière.

Miu Miu

Who: The front row stars include Poppy Delevingne, Alexa Chung, Kate Mara, Olivia Palermo, Susie Bubble and Bryan Boy.

Where: The Palais d’Iena, which is always crowded with photographers trying to get the best street style shot, fans, and curious onlookers.

The Low-down: The new Miu Miu symbol designed in collaboration with M/M Paris (with the ‘U’ almost looking like a smiley face) was found throughout the show space, which had heavy curtains drawn shut, and was dimmed to showcase video close-ups of models’ faces. The aesthetic was a mix of feminine-masculine; blazers were worn with short shorts, some with a sheer overlay. Large bows or rosettes adorned the shoulders or waists of dresses, or in the centre of the collars, or at the hem of a delicious-looking leather mini dress.

Buro Loves: The denim version of the aforementioned leather dress, paired with diamantes cascading down one side of the collar, oversized rosette blazer worn with shirt, possibly no pants, and the final look; a gold sequined minidress with trompe l’oeil ribbon, crystal ribbon necklace, jet beading and sheer bra peeking through, worn with a crystal ribbon headband. Sometimes, more is more.

Louis Vuitton

Who: Celebrities such as Cate Blanchett, Lea Seydoux, Farida Khelfa, Catherine Deneuve, Sophie Turner, Joe Jonas, Mark Ronson and Thandie Newton showed up at the Louvre for the Louis Vuitton SS19 show.

Where: This season, a purpose-built walkway was built just behind the Louvre Pyramid, a slight departure from the past seasons where the shows were held within the Louvre. All glass, fluorescent light and white seats, the entire space was dimmed, with each individual segment slowly lighting up, with soundtrack thumping, as models made their way through the space.

The Low-down: Reprising the space age theme that Nicolas Ghesquière is constantly inspired by, this season saw billowy space suit sleeves, digital prints of otherworldly landscapes that look like they were taken from vintage postcards, and an emphasis on the drop shoulder—a caged dress in metallic silver was particularly outstanding. To balance a rounder, fuller top, skirts were kept short, though that said, there were a series of 3 suit looks that looked like menswear, which turned out to be womenswear, worn by female models dressed to look like male models. A jolt of colour came by way of neo-Memphis prints, the best of which was paired with a cube-shaped trunk, or a square Petite Malle, if you will.

Buro Loves: The bags—UFO, and egg-shaped, the oversized non-boyfriend blazer, the billowing sleeves, the stark white cocoon-like coat, and floral-printed finale space suits.
