Vintage romanticism

NYFW SS16: Rodarte

Inspired by poets and songwriters of the past, including the likes of Emily Dickinson and Leonard Cohen, sisters Laura and Kate Mulleavy blend all these aspects together with the collection’s key element—music of Electric light orchestra, to create an assortment of romantic garments of heavy lace, frill, tweed, fringe, sequins and hints of sheer

To add to the mixture of designs, colours and materials used this season, Rodarte saturates the collection with rich vintage nuances, featuring trailing neck scarves that scream “Stevie Nicks”, 80s paisley prints and shaggy two-toned summer furs that remind us of the Roaring 20’s. Moreover, this theme carries through from head to toe with 70s disco shoes that steal the spotlight in metallic striped leather that festoon ankle and knee-high boots, as well as mary janes with fancy curved heels.

Aside from the use of black lace, an element of “dark romance” embeds the collection through a rose motif that emerges from the beaded embroidery and ruffles of the frocks to the quixotic floral design on the metallic hair clips.
