Streamlined silhouettes were in abundance at Fulvio Rigoni’s second collection for Salvatore Ferragamo. Those who love sleek lines and sensual yet structured pieces would enjoy what he offered for AW17, as his repertoire lies in cutting fabrics to create chic, clean and almost architectural shapes. Standouts were tied-around skirts with fold-over waists, animal prints in subtle, muted shades, a sleeveless puffer dress-jacket and not forgetting, the wonderful colour palette consisting of mint, stone, and beige alongside bolder hues such as aubergine, orange and pink.
Francesco Risso apparently drew inspiration from the archives for his debut collection at Marni, peppering floral prints on dresses of all sorts from long-sleeved high-necked ones to satin strapless frocks. Also evident was a slight retro-leaning influence in the silhouettes, motifs and colours, demonstrated by fur coats and turtlenecks paired with flared trousers, the occasional print on print with varying kitschy checkboard motifs and the like. Perhaps the strapless dresses that cut unflatteringly around the torso could have been omitted, for its lack of cohesion to the collection that was supposedly created with “multiplicity” in mind.
Like its men’s show over a month ago, Dolce & Gabbana lined up its runway with celebrity kids, toddlers, members of royalty, and more for models, proving that basically everyone in your family can have fun while looking fab (obviously). How Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana pulled strings to outfit more than 140 people of diverse shapes, sizes, ethnicities, ages and more for this grand spectacle—and pull it off is still a query as we type. Sibling models/celebs include Chase and Mackinley Hill, Neels and Kendall Visser, Rachel and Michelle Yeoh, Dani, Alessandra, and Dominik Garcia, and Chloe and Halle Bailey. Clothing wise, the duo didn’t stray far from the house codes, with fab fur coats, elaborately embroidered and floral frocks, and embellished ensembles that spelled decadence.
On the last day of Milan Fashion Week AW17, Giorgio Armani rolled out a whopping 82 looks that featured so many details, silhouettes, and separates that we wouldn’t be surprised if your head’s spinning after the 50th dress. The recurring ensemble throughout the collection was the jacket-and-pants combo, available in various colours (mostly vivid primary hues i.e red, blue, and green) and textures (velvet, jacquard, mohair). A handful of evening-worthy looks closed the show appropriately, ranging from crystallised tuxedo jackets paired with satin pants, strapless gowns with pleated bodices, and an embroidered dinner jacket with blouson sleeves.
