There’s “form and function”, and then there’s “form and femininity” as envisioned by Maria Grazia Chiuri for Dior‘s Cruise 2022 collection. Judging by the visuals the House has released, it’s a no-brainer that Greece is the landscape that serves as the inspiration. However, the heart of this inspiration comes from Chiuri’s “journey of the goddesses”, an affectionate term she named her research trip for the collection. From visiting the Heraklion Archeological Museum on the island of Crete, to the ruins of Akrotiri on the island of Santorini, to the place that bore mysterious high priestesses with divinatory abilities in Delphi, there was plenty for Chiuri to take away from the stories. And judging by the teaser videos that followed, the show will no doubt be a beautiful celebration of femininity—the kind that fuses with silent strength and grace. We, for one, are excited.
