As the fashion world waits with bated breath to see who will assume the mantle of Creative Director at Chanel, the House’s Creation Studio revealed its Spring/Summer 2025 collection at the Grand Palais earlier this week. This heralded an exciting chapter for the French brand, which has woven this iconic location into the fabric of its shows since 2005.

The beloved Parisian landmark recently underwent extensive renovations with Chanel instrumental in supporting the exceptional restoration and refurbishment of this architectural jewel. Now, the Maison is poised to spread its wings beneath the glass roof of the Nave.

Ahead of the show, Chanel stirred excitement with a 15-second teaser by fashion photographer duo, Inez and Vinoodh. The film showcased model Nigina Sharipova arriving at the Grand Palais in a black faille jumpsuit with a feathered collar. She elegantly pushes open the doors of the ‘Gabrielle Chanel’ entrance, evoking a powerful sense of the brand’s reconnection to its celebrated heritage.

A-listers such as Blackpink’s Jennie, Lupita Nyong’o, Caroline de Maigret and Laufey gathered at the heart of the cathedral of light, greeted by a magnificent birdcage that seemed to have emerged from thin air. This enchanting structure harmonised beautifully with its surroundings, complemented by thoughtfully arranged chairs and benches that conjured the feel of a lush park or garden.

Italian model Vittoria Ceretti set the tone for the runway in a striped ensemble with an oversized collar, paving the way for a series of looks that maintained similar silhouettes, all paired with two-toned platform heels. The influence of aviation was unmistakable, offering a fresh twist with bomber jackets and matching shorts reimagined in tweed and accented with Peter Pan collars. The lineup included tailored flight suits crafted from luxurious black or white faille.

A palette of soft pastels graced the runway, accentuated by delicate knits and coordinating classic top-handle bags. Some look embodied a floral fantasy, radiating lightness and movement through layered capes and ruffle accents. Others were coupled with sequined and fringed jeans, establishing this collection as a wardrobe staple for the upcoming summer.

Just before the show wrapped up, Chanel paid homage to the House’s codes with an impressive showcase of red carpet-ready designs. Picture a dazzling jumpsuit paired with flowing chiffon capes, a sheer dress embellished with feathers, and, of course, the ever-classic little black dress.

The finale of the collection featured a white, floor-length collared dress with an elongated black bow. Riley Keough charmed the spectators with her rendition of Prince’s When Doves Cry, gracefully performing from a swing suspended within the gigantic structure.

All things considered, Chanel’s SS25 collection feels invigoratingly fresh. Despite the absence of a creative director, the Creation Studio adeptly captured the quintessential essence of the Maison.
