If you’re in search of pleated pieces for the celebrations, look no further, as Melinda Looi may have precisely what you’re looking for. An ode to her late father, the signature element not only evokes nostalgic moments but also serves as a testament to meticulous craftsmanship, as seen on A-line dresses as well as matching tops and bottoms. In addition, the cheongsams are embellished with batik motifs and vibrantly coloured beaded patches, while the sheer organza hoodie features doodle-like graphics, making it an ideal choice for stylish outerwear.

Behati has gone the extra mile this year, launching a massive collection of nearly 100 pieces tailored specifically for the Chinese New Year. Aside from the well-known oversized silhouettes, what sets these collections apart is the use of digital prints and Chinese brocade with dragon motifs on both samfus and cheongsams. The two-piece cheongsam also features subtle woven stripe patterns, lending the look a fresh and modern feel. On top of this, Behati has partnered with Machino to release two pairs of shoes that showcase the uniqueness of Chinese knot.

The ‘Oriental Rise’ collection by Mag Lifestyle pays homage to the rich arts and culture prevalent in the southern region of China, notably the ancient Lingnan culture. The limited-edition collection is crafted from high-quality materials such as textured jacquards and silky denim, with oversized Pankou knots, ostrich feathers, and cascading crystals decorating all the pieces. Among the standout pieces are a brocade bolero jacket, a modern tube-cut qipao and a sequined cheongsam.

In staying true to its essence, Fern’s Oriental series incorporates nature-inspired patterns, namely the graceful flower cloud and swirl, onto the timeless silhouette. The infusion is further accentuated by a vivid burst of colour and a boxy structure. What also adds to the allure of the collection is the ombré gradient effect, imparting a contemporary flair to jumpsuits, bias-cut dresses, and kaftans. Our favourites? The Cleo long jumpsuit and the short Ling dress

Maarimaia makes an elegant return this year, unveiling yet another enchanting floral collection. Based in Bangsar, the label reimagines traditional wear into a sleeveless qipao top paired with a brocade pencil skirt. Other than that, the extensive line features a variety of flared mini dresses adorned with charming ruffled details and high-waisted pleated midi skirts. For those inclined towards a more understated aesthetic, opt for the asymmetrical off-shoulder tops in muted tones and couple them with a brocade mini skirt.
