#WednesdayWishlist: A royal getup to the races
The fanciest event this summer
Gwen Ong, Deputy Editor: 18-karat rose gold diamond ring by Anita Ko
When I think of the races, I picture fancy hats, tailored dresses, pretty heels and more high-to-the-heavens hats. The Royal Ascot may be the epitome of sartorial elegance, I truly believe that sometimes, less is more. While the headpiece is the icing on the cake for many women (and men!) at a prestigious event such as this, nothing spells glamour more than a bling ring. This beautiful piece right here is understated chic, one that holds its own with its 1.05-carats of diamond in a crowd of fascinators.
Loh Wei Yeen, Fashion & Beauty Writer: Straw headpiece by Philip Treacy
The Royal Ascot is pretty much the biggest British event to show off the fanciest head-toppers that could rival royalty. To me, the idea of a perfect hat has always been Audrey Hepburn's wide-brimmed black straw hat she donned in Breakfast at Tiffany's, but I worry about the sheer size of my head and the probability of blocking out the view of those behind me. So this Philip Treacy fascinator made from sinamay straw and buntal ribbons is a chic alternative I would go to for various reasons. Firstly, how can one deny the iconic Irish milliner's works of art? Also, race day is perhaps the only time to justify having a fantastical piece perched atop my head without feeling overly ridiculous.
Rachel Au, Lifestyle Writer: Metallic pumps from Jimmy Choo
When you're at the races, don't expect it to be much of a sit-down affair. Instead, you'll be moving around a lot and that means, you might end up regretting that beautiful pair of stilettos. A good tip I've heard (and follow till today) is to go with sensible shoes and style doesn't have to be compromised. Kitten heels are great but I've got my eye on these gorgeous gold glossed-leather pumps with block heels by Jimmy Choo. It's a modern take on the classic Mary Jane which makes it perfect for the races and after.
Tan Su Fen, Editorial Assistant: Dolce embellished box clutch by Dolce & Gabbana
One of the biggest fashion questions at the Royal Ascot has to be: What colour hat will Queen Elizabeth wear today? Well, at this year's opening day, the Queen pulled up to the affluential event dressed in yellow, hat and all. Taking cues from Her Majesty, perhaps a little (there's no way I can pull off an all-yellow look) sunny disposition is due in my race day getup by way of this beauty of a clutch by Dolce & Gabbana—a stunning statement number adorned with hand-painted daisies and sparkling crystals.
