Gift Guide 2015: What to give your boss

Boss gifting is a delicate balance to strike. On the one hand, you don’t want to seem like a brown-nosing sycophant by giving your boss a ludicrously extravagant gift. On the other, you can’t just wrap up any old trinket without thought or care. The gift you give should show that you’ve paid attention to their likes and dislikes and that you’ve made considerable effort in picking it out. Or it could be something they never knew they needed. Here’s what we’re looking at:

Set of 6 BOSS A6 Note Cards by Terrapin Stationers

Blank note cards are the handiest thing to have lying in your work drawer. You never know when you’ll need to write a quick birthday/farewell/congratulatory or condolence message and the fact that this has “BOSS” emblazoned on the top means that nobody will ever forget who sits on top.

Maple-handle collapsible umbrella by London Undercover

What’s there not to like about receiving a beautiful collapsible umbrella? They’re the most practical gift and this one is handmade in the UK, so you know quality and satisfaction is guaranteed.

Battery pack Animal edition by Samsung

With graphics designed by Sungsil Hwarang, these adorable portable chargers serve as reminders of the precious animals that are going extinct. Aside from being very cute, they have a capacity of 11,300mAh which is good for several charges and they weigh a measly 265g, making it the perfect travel companion.

365 Postcards for Ants by Lorraine Loots

Artist Lorraine Loots’ career as a miniaturist began when she was commissioned by a jewellery designer to paint a pendant. Enthralled by the delicacy of microscopic pictures, she committed to making a painting a day in 2013. Her work was so well-received that she carried the commitment into 2014 (all 730 of the originals from 2013-14 have been sold). 365 Postcards for Ants is a retrospective of her 2014 oeuvre and holds true to the fact that the best gifts do come in small packages.

Water Bobble Bottle

Sometimes the simplest gifts are the most effective and a water filtration system to go? It will keep your employer well hydrated and everytime he or she raises that bottle to their thirsty lips, they will smile while thinking of you.

Little Treats glass baubles by Bombki

Indulge their sweet tooth but without the guilt of calories. These little hand-painted glass ornaments are delectable to look at and just like window shopping, something is always better than nothing.

A personal assistant named Amy (or Andrew)

Lessen your bosses’ workload (and perhaps your own) by signing them up for a personal assistant service. You can do away with the pointless emails that run back and forth just to schedule one meeting. Amy (or her brother Andrew) will handle all the nitty-gritty, leaving your boss (and you) with more time for things that matter.
