AW22 Accessories: Our favourite trends to try now (and pieces to score later)

Thigh-high kicks

Come fall, the best boots to wear are the ones that go all the way up the leg. While thigh-grazing kicks may not be the most practical in hot weather, but you may want to think twice because it’s about to be the biggest boot trend of 2022. And why not? They elongate your legs and can elevate just about any ensemble.

The modern sack

Like all the biggest trends from the early aughts, the ‘hobo’ bag (a term that is very much outdated) has made its way back with modern riffs that make it the perfect profile for daytime coming and going. While the current landscape of this particular piece may be quite varied (in size, texture and colour), we’re leaning towards those that skew simple and minimal––staying true to the shape, without looking too bulky and perfect for those who carry the world on their shoulders.

Miss Mary Jane

We’ve said it before, and we’re saying it again: Mary Janes are here to stay, and the current resurgence of the classic schoolgirl shoe arrives in a sky-high, sexy-sweet rendition that’ll take you to new heights. Just go easy when climbing stairs.

The fluff factor

You’ve seen it across social media and on celebs but now the runways have also come down with a serious case of the fluff factor, with fuzzy, soft textures appearing on shoes, bags and hats in all sizes and colours. The borderline-outrageous accessory (fur in Malaysia?) may have people doing a double-take, but it’s a quick statement piece that’ll add a touch of fun, Y2K whimsy to your wardrobes.

All tied up

Next season, a shirt and a tie will be for everyone as gender labels become an ever more abstract proposition and clothes continue to blur the lines of traditional conventions. We’re seeing a cross-pollination between offficewear and preppy school uniforms, where ties ranging from skinny leather to blooming silks, accessorised outfits that ranged from a black halter dress to the more casual baggy pants-and-shirt combo.
