It's finally here – the official trailer for 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens,' in anticipation of the film's release in December

It's been a long wait filled with teasers and speculations of all sorts, but the first trailer for the highly-anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens has just been released. The first Star Wars film to be released under the wing of Walt Disney Studios, a lengthy ten years following Revenge of the Sith (2005), The Force Awakens is merely the first film in a brand-new trilogy.

The new trailer doesn't reveal too much about the new series, but it tittilates fans with the comeback of the original series' most iconic cast members and characters: Harrison Ford as Han Solo, Carrie Fisher as Leia Organa, and Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker... although he hasn't yet made an appearance in any of the teasers or the trailer.

As The Force Awakens takes place about 30 years following the events of Return of the Jedi (1983), the new trailer hints at a new set of young heroes and heroines taking over the reins: Rey (Deisy Ridley) a seemingly self-sufficient desert planet scavenger; Finn (John Boyega), a reformed First Order stormtrooper; and Poe (Oscar Isaac) a Resistance X-wing pilot.
