June 1 – 25, ‘Yves Saint Laurent, La Naissance dune Légende (The Birth of a Legend)’, Galeri Petronas, Kuala Lumpur

One of the highlights of Le French Festival, this photography exhibition by Pierre Boulat features 49 black and white photographs that followed the life of the late Yves Saint Laurent. Be transported back into time as you get a glimpse of the legendary designer at work, from final backstage moments to solitary drawing sessions.

June 2 – 5, ‘Potted Potter’ – The Unauthorized Harry Experience, Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC)

Time to dig out your Hogwarts letter and catch the train to Kuala Lumpur – ‘Potted Potter’, the West End London Parody by Dan and Jeff, opens tonight in KLPAC. It’s alright if you haven’t read the books, because the play condenses all seven books into 70 hilarious minutes, and Dan and James will be playing all the characters. You’ll be in for a fun night, and possibly a live game of Quidditch too.

June 4 – 5, Branford Marsalis with the MPO, Petronas Philharmonic Hall, Kuala Lumpur

How time flies, it’s already time for the MPO’s Season Finale! Before we bid the esteemed orchestra farewell for the season, catch them in action alongside saxophone superstar Branford Marsalis. The repertoire for the show includes Ravel’s ‘Valses nobles et sentimentales’ and John Williams’ ‘Escapades for saxophone from Catch Me If You Can‘.

June 4 – 5, KL Alternative Bookfest + Art For Grabs, Publika, Kuala Lumpur

This weekend, Publika will set the stage for the indie booklover’s wonderland. KL Alternative Bookfest returns for its ninth edition, this time hand-in-hand with Art For Grabs for a festival to celebrate local indie publishers, writers and craft makers all under one roof. Book discussions and launches, forums, booths of handcrafted items and more await at The Boulevard in Publika.

June 10 – 12, From Soho to Shinjuku / Half Man Half Myth – A Double Bill, Damansara Performing Arts Centre (DPAC)

From Soho to Shinjuku / Half Man Half Myth – A Double Bill brings to the audience restaged contemporary dance pieces by Malaysian choreographer Pit Fong Loh and choreographer-dancer Ming Low. While From Soho to Shinjuku takes one on a neon-lit journey from a Soho club to the streets of Tokyo, Half Man Half Myth explores the dancers’ flow of energy and movements within a constrained space.

June 11-12, Everything Japanese, KLPAC

Revel in the distinct sounds of the Land of the Rising Sun – a joint concert between the KLPAC Symphonic Band and Tsung Tsin Wind Symphony from Sabah, Everything Japanese is a tribute to some of the most talented Japanese composers, and two of them, Satoshi Yagisawa and Kazuyasu Kaminaga, will be in town to lead the bands in their own compositions.

June 25, A Tribute to Prince, The Bee, Publika, Kuala Lumpur

A legend gone too soon, there is no doubt that Prince was one of the talented, innovative and eclectic artists of our time. Join in for a night in remembrance of the Purple One as some of our local musicians relive some of his best works on stage at The Bee.
