Ed Sheeran bids farewell to the Internet
2015 seems to be the year of social media "awakenings." First, it was Instagram celebrity Essena O'Neill, who dramatically exited social media for all its "flaws", only to launch an online fundraising campaign for... herself and her veganism last month (wait, it's only been a month?). Shortly after, parody Instagrammer Socality Barbie also announced her retirement, gracefully stating that her message has been passed along and her job was done. Now, British singer songwriter Ed Sheeran too, has thrown in the towel.
"I find myself seeing the world through a screen and not my eyes so I'm taking this opportunity of me not having to be anywhere or do anything to travel the world and see everything I missed," Sheeran wrote in his final Instagram post. The 24-year-old singer made the announcement following his final show of his 16-month-long world tour in New Zealand. He's also taking time off to recover from an ear surgery.
But worry not; Sheeran also gave fans a sweet goodbye by revealing that his third album is in the works, and it is "the best thing I have made so far." He may be gone for now, but he signed off, saying, "See you all next autumn, and thank you for being amazing."
