After months of speculation, the official announcement came today that Disney+ Hotstar will be available for streaming in Malaysia beginning 1 June 2021 at the price of RM54.90 for three months. Alternatively, Astro will be offering special packages—Movies Pack customers will only need to top up RM5 per month while non-Movies Pack customers will enjoy other attractive bundles.
Subscribers will get access to exclusive and well-loved content ranging from Disney+ Originals (The Mandalorian and High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, and Marvel Studios’ WandaVision, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and Loki) to an extensive library of classic films and shows, as well as blockbuster releases from brands such as Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic. You’ll also be able to stream some of the other general entertainment series and films like Nomadland, The Walking Dead, Jojo Rabbit, Criminal Minds, Fresh off the Boat, The Simpsons, and Grey’s Anatomy.
In addition, and as a bid to support the local film industry, Disney+ Hotstar will also be the exclusive home to some of Malaysia’s highly anticipated blockbusters such as J2: J Retribusi (starring Zul Ariffin, Ashraf Sinclair and Amelia Henderson), Zombitopia (starring Shaheizy Sam, Bront Palarae and Sharifah Amani), and Ada Hantu (starring Hairul Azreen). Some of these films will skip cinemas and launch straight on Disney+ Hotstar. For the kids, they can catch Ejen Ali The Movie 2 on the streaming platform after its premiere in theatres.

- Exclusive never-seen-before Hindi and Tamil movies and series by Hotstar: Dil Bechara, Lootcase, Khuda Hafiz, Teddy (starts streaming mid-June), Big Bull (starts streaming end-June), 1232 KMS (starts streaming mid-July), The Legend of Hanuman (starts streaming mid-July), Live Telecast and Triples
- Tamil blockbusters and Star Vijay series: Vishwaroopam 1 and 2, Maari, Thuppakki, Nanban, Kaaka Muttai, Pandian Stores, Bharathi Kannamma, Raja Rani, Super Singer 8 and Naam Iruvar Namakku Iruvar
There are just too many shows to name. After all, at launch, Disney+ Hotstar will boast over 800 films and 18,000 episodes. Subscribers will be able to access them all via compatible mobile and connected TV devices as well as streaming media players. The majority of the content will be available for download on mobile and tablet via the Disney+ Hotstar app, and then enjoyed offline. Each account can support two concurrent streams.
