16 Potential prizewinners that should be on your reading list
All the noteworthy books that have been announced as part of the 2018 Women’s Prize for Fiction longlist

On International Women's Day, 16 novels have been named to the Women's Prize for Fiction 2018 longlist, honouring both established and new authors with works spanning different genres and four continents. Familiar names on the list include Arundhati Roy, the Booker Prize winner who just published her second work of fiction The Ministry of Utmost Happiness 20 years after The God of Small Things (1997), and Pulitzer winner Jennifer Egan for her fifth novel Manhattan Beach.

"What is striking about the list, apart from the wealth of talent, is that women writers refuse to be pigeon-holed," says Sarah Sands, chair of the 2018 judging panel. "We have searing social realism, adventure, comedy, poetic truths, ingenious plots and unforgettable characters. Women of the world are a literary force to be reckoned with."
