The Kris Wu collaboration you didn’t see coming

Kris Wu is going places. The multi-talented Chinese artiste has certainly proved that he was more than capable of success on his own since leaving the K-pop industry four years ago—he has since carved a name for himself as a formidable actor, a style icon and front row regular at the biggest fashion shows (he is also a brand ambassador for Burberry and Bulgari), and he has continued making music through it all, producing chart-topping hits and bringing Chinese hip hop across borders.

Following the success of ‘Like That’ earlier this year, Kris Wu drops ‘Freedom’, his latest single featuring R&B darling Jhené Aiko; a collaboration we didn’t see coming, but makes total sense on second thought—hip hop and R&B are a match made in heaven when gelled right after all. Produced by FKi 1st, ‘Freedom’ is a breezy melodic rap track that showcases rapid-fire rap layered with Aiko’s ethereal vocals against a soulful arrangement of guitar and strings over trap drums.

‘Like That’ and ‘Freedom’ are set to be a part of Wu’s upcoming debut album, slated for release this fall. Not long to go now.
