New Music Friday: Alfie Templeman’s new album, Airliftz’s ‘Love Therapy’, and Bihzhu’s ‘Chendering’

Alfie Templeman releases new mini-album, ‘Forever Isn’t Long Enough’

If you haven’t heard of Alfie Templeman yet, allow us to introduce you. A fresh face on the music scene, Templeman has continued to go from strength to strength, with singles such as his debut track ‘Like An Animal’ and his string of well-received EPs. Most recently, however, the 18-year-old has released his very first ‘mini-album’. On the album, the singer explains: “I wanted to make a refined and focused pop record; something more widescreen than an EP but more concise than a full-length album—with a feel somewhere between Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours and Tame Impala’s Currents.”

“In making Forever Isn’t Long Enough I realised that I needed to slow down a little and work on things carefully. The songs took anywhere from one day to 4 months to 2 years to finish for this record, but I made sure each one was perfect and I’ve never been more proud of how they all came out,” he continues.

This isn’t the end—the rising star is keeping busy: In addition to the launch of his highly-anticipated mini-album, the fresh face is set to embark on a headline tour this Spring.

Airliftz releases new single, ‘Love Therapy’, (feat. Allester Shaun, Shye, and Nisa Addina)

Airliftz is back, and this time he’s brought a crew. His latest single, ‘Love Therapy’, features the likes of Kuching-born musician Allester Shaun, Singaporean producer Shye, and violinist Nisa Addina, and explores the desire to “find your own ‘love therapy’ through a person”.

The track is an upbeat, indie-pop tune underscored by a smooth blend of harmonies and a perfect meld of each artists’ distinct styles. Overall, it’s a fun track with a hopping beat and, expectedly, great production value. Trust us—it’s the perfect addition to your playlists this week.

Bihzhu’s latest single is a cover of ‘Chendering’

Originally penned by Penangite Jimmy Boyle (1922 – 1971), a celebrated jazz pianist and prolific composer, Bihzhu’s take on the composition is a considered and heartwarming tribute to its source. The singer first encountered a song after being invited to perform it with Boyle’s son—James Boyle—at a Penang House Of Music exhibit in 2016. She then reprised the song in 2017 with Boyle at the Penang Island Jazz Festival.

Resonating with the song deeply, Bihzhu then set out to rearrange and record the song with her band, resulting in this captivating cover.
