From its opening in 1972 and well into the ’90s. Paula’s Ibiza was the place to be. Something of a legend in the fashion scene, the cult shopping destination was frequented by the likes of Donna Summer, Freddie Mercury, Valentino and countless artistes and aristocrats.
Having been inspired by prints and items from Paula’s during his childhood visits to the island, Jonathan Anderson launched a one-of-a-kind collaboration with Paula’s Ibiza for Spring Summer 2017. The capsule featured summery clothing and accessories of turquoise and saffron gussied up with tropical print.
But no island holiday is complete without the perfect soundtrack.
Thus, we welcome the infectious summer anthem, “Close to Paradise” produced by Loewe in collaboration with the band Soulwax and prolific sound director Michel Gaubert (who is also behind the runway soundtracks of Loewe and JW Anderson, amongst numerous other shows in Paris and Milan). A spin of the record transports listeners to the wild nights of Ibiza in the seventies and eighties through an eclectic tempo spliced with the narration of four local characters, providing four unique perspectives on the island’s esoteric allure.
The full experience comes in the form of a record. An editorial ode to Ibiza condensed into a 12-chapter digital publication can be downloaded for free on iTunes. Give “Ibiza: Close to Paradise” a listen and hear how 16 prominent personalities and 12 iconic places left an indelible mark on the island.
