Concerts, gigs and musical events you should check out in November 2019

13 November and 27 November, David Bowie Tribute Night @ No Black Tie, KL

This show is not Johan Sultan & The Moonbeams’ first rodeo. The band has performed the David Bowie Tribute Night for three times now at No Black Tie and The Gaslight KL. Not only that, the band played all the songs in Bowie’s last album, Blackstar, as a farewell to Bowie (who passed away two days after the release of his last masterpiece). This year, they’re back with another tribute night for audiences to relive Bowie’s iconic music. A must-not miss event for Bowie fans to enjoy his best songs.

15 –16 November, Orquesta Yambeque @ No Black Tie, KL

Ever wondered how a Cuban nightlife feels like? Well, it’s time to tick that box off your bucket list! Head down to No Black Tie and experience a full-on authentic Latin jazz performance. The band’s leader, Mateo Lorenzo is joined with other musicians from Colombia, Venezuela, Europe, Canada, Malaysia, and Australia. Orquesta Yambeque also takes some music inspiration from the Caribbean Coast of Colombia, the sound of the ’70s, and the Golden Age of Salsa in New York and Puerto Rico. The gig will also feature some of the best music from Latin legends such as Tito Puente, Joe Arroyo, Cheo Feliciano, El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, and more.

16 November – 24 November, Urbanscapes 2019 @ Sentul Depot

With tickets selling fast like hot cakes, you can be assured that this is the hottest event taking place this month. This year’s line-up is a steal; musicians Boy Pablo, Glass Animals, Cuco, Sunset Rollercoaster, and more are set to perform for festival goers. Urbanscapes is not only known for its musical performances but also its creative art installations, designs and interactive activities. Early bird tickets are sold out. But not to fret, you can still get the other tickets. Do note that different musicians are performing on 21 November 2019 and 24 November 2019 hence the price differences.

19 November, Chamber Concert VIII @ Malaysia Philharmonic Orchestra

The three music pieces that will be performed on that night are Strauss’ Violin Sonata in Eb Major Op.18, Ravel’s Sonata No. 1 in A minor ‘Sonate Posthume‘, and Brahms’ Horn Trio Op.40. The performers will be playing the piano, horn, and violins. This might not seem like much, but the purpose of chamber music repertoire is to create an intimate, rich and refined musical experience. What a divine way to end the night after work, especially for classical music lovers!

24 November, One Night Only: The Beatles Tribute @The Bee, Publika

The Beatles is undeniably, one of the most iconic and influential bands that are still relevant today. Their uplifting songs convey so much positivity and love. In our present world, it’s safe to say that ‘All You Need Is Love’, so ‘Come Together’ and celebrate some of The Beatles’ top hits. Take a trip back to the ’60s and immerse yourself in the world of nostalgia and great music. For those who have not experienced One Night Only, it is a monthly tribute event organised to appreciate and celebrate legendary musicians of the past.
