Buro 24/7 Malaysia Playlist #15: 2005

2005 was a good year for music – heck, most of the early 2000s were great, simply because the airwaves offered something for everyone, from rock to pop, to hip hop and R&B (devoid of David Guetta collaborations.) This magical time marked many milestones in music: Rihanna had just released her breakthrough single ‘Pon De Replay,’ and The Black Eyed Peas were experiencing the peak of their success. But more importantly, there were gems that have long been forgotten.

A time where dancing in music videos was actually skillfully executed, rather than twerking bottoms and slow-mo booty shots, Missy Elliott and Ciara added a fair dose of girl power to hip-hop music and dancing. Then there was Gwen Stefani and Rob Thomas, who both ventured solo with a pop music direction following the hiatus of alternative rock bands No Doubt and Matchbox 20 respectively. 1995 also had its own version of Justin Bieber, the fresh-faced Jesse McCartney, and it was also a time where actor Will Smith made more music than movies, for which he won four Grammys.
