Ocean’s Eleven reboot with all-female dream team

It’s been over 15 years since we were first introduced to one of the coolest gangs on-screen in Ocean’s Eleven—a reboot of the 60s movie with the same name. The classic heist film featured a star-studded cast that includes George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon amongst others. Now to challenge its predecessor’s cool team, Ocean’s Ocho—current working title, will see a ladies ensemble that has gotten us intrigued, to say the least. Ocho is Spanish for ‘eight’; could this mean there are eight beautiful thieves this time around?

Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter and Mindy Kaling are reportedly in the line-up of female leads with Elizabeth Banks as the latest to come onboard. Filming is expected to begin early next year in New York under the creative eyes of director Gary Ross.

The storyline follows Sandra Bullock’s character, who gathers a team of elite thieves to steal a coveted necklace from the Met Ball while framing a gallery owner for the crime. Cate Blanchett is slated to play the right-hand woman to Bullock’s character, similar to Brad Pitt’s Rusty in the Ocean’s Eleven trilogy. No word yet on what characters the other actresses will play. While there are talks that George Clooney will make a cameo as Danny Ocean, this may only happen later in a potential sequel.

The Ocean’s Ocho project has been in development for the past two years with George Clooney, director Steven Soderbergh and producer Jerry Weintraub working on it before Weintraub passed away last year.
