2025 BAFTA Film Awards: Winners and highlights
Shining stars

On 16 February, the Royal Festival Hall in London dazzled with the finest stars from British cinema and Hollywood in celebration of the 2025 BAFTA Film Awards. Hosted by Scottish actor David Tennant—best known for his role as the iconic Doctor Who—the prestigious night honoured new and seasoned performers who have made an impact in cinema in the past year.
Vatican drama Conclave led the night with 12 nominations ahead of Jacques Audiard’s campy musical Emilia Pérez with 11 nods and the Brady Corbet-directed The Brutalist’s nine.
By the end of the night, Conclave and The Brutalist tied with four wins each. The former took home stattuettes for Best Film and Outstanding British Film whilst the latter nabbed Best Director and Best Leading Actor for Corbet and Adrien Brody, respectively.
Meanwhile, Mikey Madison was named the Best Leading Actress at the BAFTAs for her breakout role in Anora, after noticeably being shut out of the 2025 Golden Globes. Zoe Saldaña continues to have a successful awards campaign after picking up another Best Supporting Actress statuette for her performance in Emilia Pérez.
While it didn’t win any acting awards, Wicked was recognised in Best Production Design and Costume Design whilst indie horror film The Substance took home Best Makeup and Hair. Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic Dune: Part Two also picked up awards for Best Special Effects and Best Sound.
The BAFTAs also honoured legendary British actor and TV host Warwick Davis with the Fellowship Award for his contributions to cinema. The actor is one of the highest-paid supporting actors of all time, with multiple accolades in films such as Willow, the Star Wars film series, and the Harry Potter film franchise.
On the other hand, up-and-comer David Jonsson received the EE Rising Star Award, which is voted by the public. The 31-year-old who has been steadily gaining recognition for his performance in Rye Lane, Alien: Romulus, and Industry, reflected on stage: “I’m just an East London boy…I didn’t really see a space for me in this industry…This award is about the people, and as long as we keep telling stories about people, I think there will be a space for me and for people like me.”
