If you think of it, you could liken Vincent Van Gogh to the modern-day Snapchatter. He painted a lot of things – everything in sight, really. He also painted his bedroom, which has thus far served as an important reference point to museums that have attempted to immortalise the way he lived and the space that most of us would consider most comfortable.
Van Gogh’s paintings of his bedroom in Arles, Framce – three of them, apparently – has been displayed in Chicago for the first time ever, along with a collection of his other work. The Art Institute of Chicago naturally became very excited about the paintings’ debut in the state, and decided to celebrate by recreating the room and putting it up for rent on Airbnb for just $10.
But the institute didn’t just arrange the furniture as it’s arranged in the paintings; they gave the room a makeover that would really make you feel as if you’ve stepped right into Van Gogh’s painting, complete with outlines on the furniture and brush strokes.
The ad on Airbnb says, “It’s decorated in a Post-Impressionist style, reminiscent of Southern France and times gone by,” adding that, “I’m charging $10 for no other reason that that I need to buy paint. However, I will be happy to provide you with tickets to my exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago.”
