Star Wars in the shadows: Red Hong Yi’s tribute to the Force

This past weekend has been all about Star Wars: The Force Awakens. As the film continues the saga following the events of 1983’s Return of the Jedi and arrives a full decade following the last 2005 release of Revenge of the Sith, it’s no wonder that fans around the world are getting dressed up in their Star Wars bests, grabbing their lightsabers, and heading for the theatres.

For local artist Red Hong Yi, her preparation for this massive comeback began about a month ago, and the results are stunning. She created a series of shadow artworks based on the film franchise’s favourite characters: Darth Vader, Chewbacca, R2-D2, Princess Leia, Yoda and a Stormtrooper. Using an array of materials – from chocolate cookies to feathers, to graphics cards – attached and suspended with thin wires.
