Art happenings this month that will pique your interest

28 October – 28 November 2017, ‘Curious Houses’ at RAW Art Space KL

If you haven’t already checked out this fairly new and unique gallery in town, you should! Located in Chinatown, RAW Art Space is an artist-run indie art space-meets-experimental music venue. Right now it’s hosting ‘Curious Houses’, a group show curated by Raksasa Print Studio with plenty of fascinating artworks that are bound to rouse your curiousity.

29 October 2017 – 25 February 2018, ‘Gerak Rupa Ubur Penyataan 1957-1973’  at Ilham Gallery

This ongoing art exhibition traces the emergence of modern art as a cultural phenomenon in Malaysia in the 1960s through the early works of seven pioneering local modern artists: Anthony Lau, Cheong Laitong, Ibrahim Hussein, Jolly Koh, Latiff Mohidin, Syed Ahmad Jamal, and Yeoh Jin Leng.

3 November – 31 December 2017, Group – Mixed Show at Wei-Ling Gallery

Making plans to hang out at The Gardens Mall over the weekend? Take a walk to the rooftop for a healthy dose of art at Wei-Ling Gallery. There’s an eclectic mix of works currently on exhibit, including Kim Ng’s Walking on the Grounds of Someone’s Dream (2012), Zulkifli Yusoff’s mixed media Untitled (2014), and a selection of Yau Bee Ling’s art pieces.

18 – 19 November, Design Link Collective ‘X’ at Koncent Malaysia

By this time, Christmas will be just a little over a month away – time to gift hunt. A diverse string of local designers, makers and artisans will be showcasing their work at this installation, and there will be mini workshops for you to pick up a craft or two too. Learn how to make a tapir memo clip with Moo.Nicholas, or try your hand at calligraphy with Inez Calligraphy.

25 November, Etsy Made Local Malaysia 2017 at PAM Centre, Bangsar

Hosted by Etsy Malaysia’s team of creative makers, Etsy Made Local celebrates the crafters, collectors and artisans in local communities across the country. You’ll also find several participating sellers from Southeast Asia and Australia in this artsy affair.

25 – 26 November, Fuyoh Art Bazaar at Publika

Fuyoh Art Bazaar is making a comeback, and it promises to be as fab as usual. Find everything from handmade jewellery and paintings, to clay models and unique home deco items at this art market.
