Chanel will make you rethink your stance on matte with its Fall 2018 makeup collection

If you’re just about to turn your back on the matte beauty trendwagon this season, Chanel’s latest Fall 2018 collection is the only worthy reason to put that thought on hold and rekindle your love for anything matte. Chanel’s Makeup and Colour Artist Lucia Pica is giving us so much to crush on with a full-blown, matte beauty collection from the French house—Apotheosis, Le Mat De Chanel is redefining how matte textures and colours can translate on the skin, pushing boundaries of texture and colour in more ways than one.

“Starting with such an abstract concept as matte connected me directly to the woman who would wear this finish and to how that would make her think and feel,” Pica explains. “I imagine her as confident, sophisticated and elegant; intellectual but still daring. She’s completely unapologetic—my favourite kind of woman!”

This time around, the concept of matte is expressed in a unique, translucent finish that nourishes the skin rather than mask it. What you can expect is a palette of earthy shades and vivid coloured tones, lending a bold aesthetic to the range. But worth mentioning is the classic black Chanel packaging of the collection that now takes on an elegant matte finish, reflecting the textures of the contents within.

If merely textures can’t beget a reaction from you, the rich hues of each product will make you want to experiment with the range in its entirety. The Les 4 Ombres eyeshadow palettes are goals for any wintry makeup look, featuring a swoon-worthy melange of deep browns, light mauves and strong blues. For a more defined smokey eye, work with the black, beige and gunmetal blue grey of the Stylo Ombre Et Contour pens to accompany your look. The lips aren’t forgotten too—the practical lip colour pens Le Rouge Crayon De Couleur Mat now comes in six new shades that are creamy as they are velvety in finish. If you prefer a sheer coverage over the lips, try the Rouge Allure Ink for a stained, très natural effect. Keep your complexion in check with a wash of mauve-pink from the Joues Contraste cheek colour, and your nails in matte-d glory with sultry Le Vernis nail colours—one, an enigmatic red and the other a matte burgundy.
