Woman with the longest nails in the world gets a very dramatic manicure

It has become a pretty common phenomenon to celebrate lockdown with a big makeover. It makes sense: Months in isolation left us all—to put it nicely—unkempt, and so a trip to the hair salon to snip off dead ends or to the nail parlour for a gel touch-up was more than welcome. That said, no one’s ‘big’ makeover has been quite as considerable as that of Ayanna Williams.

The Texas native in question has been growing her nails out for over 25 years, and she has finally said goodbye for good. Her record-breaking talons were first inducted into the Guinness Book Of World Records back in 2017, and at the time of their removal, the nails measured in at a whopping 733.55cm.

For context, it took four whole bottles of nail polish and several days of handiwork to complete a manicure. Plus, as expected, everyday activities were rendered completely impossible thanks to her jaw-dropping claws. With that in mind, it’s no wonder that Williams has decided to let go of her reigning title and say goodbye to her iconic nails once and for all—in her words: “I’m just about tired of them, so it’s time for them to go.”

The procedure itself was quite a sentimental feat. Instead of your regular, bog-standard nail salon, the record-holder went to a dermatologist’s office to get her nails cut with an electric rotary tool. While that sounds scary, fret not—Williams expressed absolutely zero discomfort (apart from the sentimental kind) during the procedure, and it was over in a flash. In fact, all she felt was a wash of relief.

As for what is to become of her record-breaker’s disembodied nails, they are set to be displayed at Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! in Orlando, Florida. Meanwhile, Williams has plans to grow her natural set out again, only this time she’ll keep them at a more reasonable length.
