The best beauty looks from the 2023 VMAs

Who stole the show at this year’s MTV VMAs? Ahead, we’ve rounded up our favourite beauty looks from the evening, from the subversive to the classic.

While every awards show has its showstoppers, the VMAs are notorious for having the most… eclectic variety in looks. While most awards shows see stars dressing to the nines, the VMAs have historically been an opportunity for celebrities to push the boundaries and step on toes, whether it’s Lil Nas X’s wearable feather art installation from 2022, Rose McGowan’s bum-bearing “dress” from 1998, or Lady Gaga’s infamous meat dress from 2010.

Needless to say, expectations are high, and we were anxious to see what our favourite celebs would rock up in. Fortunately, the stars have aligned and delivered in full, especially when it comes to hair, makeup and nails.

Cardi B, Doja Cat, Saweetie and Coco Jones all rocked extra long nails, each decorated ornately with any variation of shocking crimson, cyber-Barbie decals or inky-black accents. Taylor Swift switched up her signature look, choosing to rock an optical illusion updo that looked positively mullet-like from some angles.

Chloe Bailey decided to pay homage to a VMAs legend, Alicia Keys, with a head full of luscious, long curls and a modern take on ’90s glam.Doja Cat also paid homage to the history of the event, making a nice callback to classic noughties VMAs glamour with her beauty look—complete with spidery lashes, pencil-thin arches, frosted lids and a defined lip line to boot.

And that’s just a few of the highlights! Ahead, find the full list of beauty htis that stood out to us from the evening:
