The art of colour-coordination in makeup can come across as cheesy if it isn’t done right — read: matching your bright red dress with your eyeshadow colour might read as overkill to some. But at Dior’s Autumn/Winter 2018 show yesterday, Dior Makeup’s Creative and Image Director Peter Philips showed us that there’s more than one way to rep colour in your makeup. Backstage, models sported a dash of colour over their eyelids and on the lower lash lines — all the shades matched the hues of sunglasses from the new ready-to-wear collection. “I wanted to create an eye that displayed colour and played with the shades of the sunglasses which were omnipresent in this collection,” explains Philips.
What we love about this snazzy look is that anyone (be it an amateur or a pro) can pull it off with a few handy makeup products. Philips kept the complexion natural-looking with a luminous glow to let the eyes take centre stage, using the Capture Youth Glow Booster Serum for a radiant base along with a dash of concealer and powder thereafter. A slick of Dior Addict Lip Maximizer was applied on the lips for a subtly plump effect.
To ensure the eyes pop, Philips drew a line of colour on the upper and lower lash lines with the new Diorshow On Stage Liner. “There is a ‘camouflage’ make-up effect, as though it’s blending in with each pair of glasses,” he said. “I finished the look by emphasizing eyebrows with the Diorshow Brow Styler and Diorshow Bold Brow, while making sure they still looked natural.”
