There’s a new fragrance house in town—we speak to the founders behind Cereria Terenzi to learn more about the brand.

Scent is and always will be an extremely personal thing, and no one understands that more than the sibling duo behind the Italian artistic fragrance house, Cereria Terenzi. The house’s three labels—Giardino Benessere, Tiziana Terenzi and V Canto—have just landed on the shelves at Amaris Beauty, and we’ve spoken to the founding duo to clean more into the house’s philosophy on scent.

Rather than being guided by routine or trends, each fragrance creation from the house is more than just another perfume—according to founders Paolo and Tiziana Terenzi, they are emotional biographies, each guided by the deep personal connections and emotional experiences that inspire them. 

“Our scents begin with significant moments from our travels or personal life, each a seed for the narratives we wish to share through our perfumes,” the founders explain. “Together, we blend our creative spirits to transcend conventional perfumery boundaries, personally selecting the finest natural materials from around the globe. This ensures the authenticity and intensity of each fragrance.”

What inspired you to launch in our Malaysian market?

“Our decision to launch in the Malaysian market was greatly inspired by the country’s diverse cultural heritage and tropical climate, which shape a distinct preference for fresh, vibrant fragrances. Malaysians are drawn to scents that reflect their rich biodiversity, such as floral and fruity notes, which resonate with the lush landscapes and vibrant urban life. 

“At Tiziana Terenzi, we strive to cater to these tastes with our sophisticated fragrances that connect to nature. We believe our unique offerings allow individuals to explore and embrace their exclusive essence, creating memorable experiences tied to the beautiful, diverse atmosphere of Malaysia.”

 

What are the different fragrance collections Tiziana Terenzi offers?

“In the realm of Tiziana Terenzi, perfumes are not merely fragrances but portals to vivid realms and intense emotions. All our fragrances draw inspiration from the profound exploration of emotions and the essence of life, often symbolised by the evocative power of fire.

“The Classic Gold fragrances embody the stages of a journey consumed by fire and the indomitable spirit of our emotions, while the Classic Black represents more than just perfume; they are a voyage through emotions and memories. Their distinctive quality arises from their origins as a series of notes in old notepads, chronicling a journey that continues to unfold.

“The Anniversary collection celebrates the essence of simplicity, eschewing artificial enhancements to embrace the purity of natural scents. Luna, meanwhile, captures a diverse palette of human emotions—from the sweetness of dreams and love to the quietude of idleness and the pangs of unfinished deeds, each scent telling its own story.

“The Luna Star Attar is presented in a handmade crystal bottle, its contents rich and velvety like honey while the Luna Star Extrait de Parfum aspires to new artistic heights with its focus on preserving the most refined extracts. Assoluto offers an enchanting mix of knowledge and magic, available only in exclusive, limited quantities that make each drop a rare treasure.

“The Comets collection, on the other hand, is inspired by the celestial, its designs featuring a blend of transparency, colour, and the exquisite craftsmanship of Italian jewellery, capturing the essence of floating through the sky.

“Together, these collections form a tapestry of light, splendour, and narrative, each crafted with the meticulous attention to detail and passionate creativity that are hallmarks of Tiziana Terenzi’s commitment to Italian artisanal excellence.”

 

 

What do you hope to achieve with your fragrances?

“With our fragrances, we hope to preserve the artisanal heritage and artistic integrity that defined perfumery’s past. As the industry evolves, often prioritising commercial gain over craftsmanship, we strive to keep alive the tradition of creating unique fragrances that resonate with personal style and emotional depth. 

“Our goal is to offer beautifully imperfect scents that transcend commercial trends, capturing the essence of real experiences and emotions in each bottle. We want our creations to be more than just perfumes; they should serve as a universal language that brings the indelible emotions of life into a tangible form, allowing wearers to express their individuality and experiences through scent.”

 

Could you walk us through Cereria Terenzi’s private-label bespoke creations?

“At Cereria Terenzi, we proudly partner with prestigious international brands, offering our expertise in fragrance development, marketing, storytelling, and global logistics management. Under Paolo’s guidance, we craft bespoke fragrances that resonate with brand identities and market demands. Tiziana leads our creative direction, from concept development to design and storytelling.

“Our team supports clients at every stage, ensuring products adhere to international regulations and managing everything from prototyping to production launch. At Terenzi, innovation is key. We collaborate closely with universities and industrial centres to advance our research and development, creating groundbreaking products like our Alcohol-Free perfumes. We commit our full expertise to help our partners achieve excellence and shared success.

“In our Terenzi boutiques, we offer a bespoke perfume service built exactly around the personality and taste of the private client who wants to treat himself to a unique and inimitable experience: the luxury of having a tailored fragrance created solely for them. Our clients include many royals, famous actors, sports personalities and successful entrepreneurs who like to leave an indelible and unforgettable mark with an unobtainable fragrance built just for them. This is an artisanal process that takes a few months to complete but is worth the wait. The cost for this unforgettable experience starts from 50,000 euros. Beauty has no limits!”

 

The fragrance industry has grown so much over the last decade, especially concerning niche fragrances. Where do you see the fragrance industry evolving from here?

“The fragrance industry has seen remarkable growth in the niche sector over the last decade, a trend we see continuing to evolve towards more exclusive and sophisticated fragrances. In recent years, there’s been a heightened public desire for fragrances that can evoke deep emotions and offer a sense of unique identity. People are moving away from mainstream, seasonal trends dictated by fashion, and are instead seeking out fragrances that reflect their personal style and individuality. 

“This shift is supported by an increase in customer knowledge and a greater appreciation for the artistry behind fragrances. Our customers are becoming connoisseurs in their own right, influenced by their encounters with perfumers and artistic brands. They’re now more aware of their choices, moving the industry away from the dominance of large corporations and towards a landscape where artistic, ‘beautifully imperfect’ fragrances resonate with personal experiences and genuine self-expression. As such, we see the future of perfumery as increasingly artistic, driven by creativity and the desire to communicate genuine, evocative emotions.”

 

 

Your formulations have been developed to reflect your commitment to lowering your environmental impact—could you elaborate more on the steps you’re taking for your green initiatives?

“Our commitment to reducing our environmental impact is deeply intertwined with our passion for nature, which is at the heart of all our creations. We prioritise the use of premium natural ingredients, which are sourced based on their availability, dictated by seasonal and environmental conditions rather than market demands. 

“This approach leads us on journeys across the globe to find the finest raw materials, directly from the best farmers and producers who adhere to strict industrial quality standards and ethical practices, including the protection of health and workers’ rights. Furthermore, our green initiatives extend throughout our supply chain. We focus on sustainable practices such as using local raw materials whenever possible, applying low-impact production techniques to save energy, and ensuring fair remuneration across all stages of production.

“We also emphasise transparency and cooperation in our business practices, avoiding unfair commercial practices and commodity price speculation. Additionally, we work on optimising our orders and packaging strategies to minimise transport volumes and reduce polluting emissions. All these efforts contribute to our overarching goal of promoting safety, traceability, quality, and respect for both the environment and human resources.” 

 

What are the biggest fragrance trends you predict are on the rise?

“The current trends in niche perfumery are leaning towards complex, layered scents, blending traditional and unconventional notes to create unique olfactory experiences. There’s a marked preference for woody, musky notes mixed with lighter, airy florals or zesty citrus. Additionally, in line with these trends, there’s an emerging inclination towards floral and fruity notes, reflecting a desire for fragrances that convey a sense of natural freshness and vibrancy.”
